The Challenge: Mysterious Water Damage!

Homeowners Howard and Chris contacted us regarding water intrusion on the third floor of their property. Water was somehow penetrating the inner cavity wall and appearing on the kitchen wall, of the flat on the top floor of the property, yet the source remained elusive. Visual inspections from ground level had failed to identify the problem, leaving everyone involved (including the couple's builder) frustrated.

A building management client needed to know what was happening on the flat roof, as some leakage had been reported. This would have been a nightmare location to put scaffolding up or get a raised platform access, located next to a busy main road, with very narrow foot way. A big logistical problem with many days of notice period to the local authority, never easy! 

The Flat Roof Inspection

This is a huge flat roof space that a roof inspection was requested for. We needed to capture the information for the surveyor who was writing a condition report for their client.

Case Study 3 – Cut Edge Corrosion

Cut Edge Corrosion is a manufacturing failure issue from corrugated steel sheeting that has been inadequately been rust proofed. Because the treatment of the steel has failed, water has made contact with the low quality steel and started to degrade (rusting).

3D Point Clouds and Drone Photogrammetry

We were asked by a local history group to document and map an area of a Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery in Brockley in South East London, using 3D point clouds and drone photogrammetry.

Case Study 2 – Kingston Hospital

The Regency wing of Kingston Hospital was built in the 1800s, and so as such the roof requires constant maintenance. Our client directed us to investigate the condition of the roof, examining the chimney stacks, the pitch and elevation, ridge tiles, pointing, guttering and general overall condition. These are pretty much standard variables in most UAV inspections we complete.

Case Study 1 – Tower Bridge

For HeliDrone this was an unusual type of property survey. For a start, the location was fairly unusual being right on top of the Thames. The location itself was not actually in any highly restricted flying zone (Class D), However when we contacted NATS they informed us that not stray into R158. This was quite a clear borderline as crossing it meant flying over Tower Bridge and heading along Thames west and into the area of City hall, a high-security zone!
